The wedding of Danielle and Dean was nothing short of magical, a dazzling celebration that perfectly captured the essence of their love. Surrounded by a stunning display of warm colors and soft floral arrangements, the couple’s joy was palpable as they danced under the twinkling lights and vibrant bursts of sparklers. The atmosphere was as enchanting as their connection, with every detail— from the delicate draping to the elegant decor—coming together to create a breathtaking backdrop for a night filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable memories.

Tell us a little about yourselves. How did you meet?

Dean and I met at university back in 2017, although we were studying slightly different degrees we had a few geology classes that overlapped. We initially connected and became friends through mutual friends of ours and our connection grew over time. We became closer over the years, with many geology field trips often involving group camping trips and a lot of hiking! We became very good friends and spent many late nights together at uni studying for exams and working on assignments together, and were texting constantly. Dean then invited me to a free donut day at UQ, I had assumed that this was him asking me out (he assures me to this day it wasn’t, but I disagree haha), and I wasn’t sure what to think so I initially declined. We later went on yet another geology field trip together and spent many hours together camping and chatting on the long bus trips between field areas and one fateful night me and my friends had a few too many wines. My best friend and I were sitting in the tent together happily chatting when Dean came in and told us to be quiet as it was late and other people at the campsite were trying to sleep, we both laughed and continued talking as Dean left the tent. I mentioned to her that I thought Dean liked me, and she agreed and proceeded to convince me to leave the tent and go speak to him. After a few minutes I was convinced and I stumbled out of the tent to go speak to him, I proceeded to chat with him and ended up asking him out for coffee. The next morning we continued our conversation over text and in the following weeks Dean asked me to be his girlfriend on the 18th May 2019. Who would have thought that 5 years later we would be getting married, with those same friends from uni standing by our sides!

Can you share your engagement story?

Dean and I got engaged on 5th September 2021 at the Emporium hotel in South Bank. Dean and my brother actually worked together to surprise me with the engagement! My brother messaged me saying that he had won a special industry award (very believable from my high achieving brother), and that he would be presented with the award at a special dinner event in Brisbane and asked us to go to support him. Dean and I weren’t living in Brisbane at the time, but we took it as a good opportunity to have a little holiday, a friend of mine had recently stayed at the Emporium and it looked very nice and had been pestering Dean about staying there one day, so as a surprise for me he booked us a room at the Emporium! We travelled to Brisbane and checked into our room at the Emporium, when we arrived at the room there were rose petals on the bed and a bottle of champagne on ice, it was beautiful and I was very excited at the stunning gesture and ran excitedly around the room! Dean was a little less excited, as they had forgotten the chocolate coated strawberries, so he called reception and we got the strawberries delivered and received a complimentary breakfast due to the mix up (winning!). We ate the strawberries, so good!

And then began getting ready for the award dinner, I had gone shopping earlier in the day and actually bought a new set to wear for the dinner, so I proceeded to finish getting ready and did my hair and makeup. We had organised with Chris (my brother) to meet us at our hotel so he could come up and see the room, and we would then walk to the dinner together (it was at the convention center, apparently). Chris arrived and came up to our room, he was dressed up nicely in a suit, so really selling the story! Dean then walked out in a full suit and I remember thinking how nice he looked! Dean then suggested we go out onto the balcony and take some photos with the city & river views before we go to dinner, so we proceeded outside and Chris was taking photos for us. Dean then started acting a little weird and saying all these nice things to me,  I was telling him to hurry because we need to leave for dinner soon. Next thing he had dropped down onto one knee and opened a box to display the most beautiful ring as he asked me to marry him! I started crying and said yes and dropped down to the ground with him in tears, we hugged and kissed and celebrated! And Chris had captured it all on video for us to keep. I quickly realised there was no dinner and turned to Chris and Dean telling them that they’d tricked me and they both laughed! Chris tooke a few more photos for us and then went back home and Dean and I went up to the hotel’s rooftop restaurant together and had our first dinner as fiance’s!

What made you choose Victoria Park?

Dean and I started looking at wedding venues pretty early, around the end of 2022 and we looked at a number of venues together, but Victoria Park was the only venue we both fully agreed on and liked! We looked at various locations around Brisbane and did all the spreadsheets trying to compare different packages and we just kept coming back to Victoria park and particularly the Ballroom as it really fit the classy, elegant and timeless aesthetic we were wanting for our wedding!

Did you have a specific theme in mind? And how did you find your inspiration?

We didn’t have a specific theme in mind for the wedding per se, but I did have a feel for the kind of wedding I wanted to have, I knew I wanted it to be elegant and classy with a more classic timeless vibe. We knew we wanted to have a church wedding, with the initial parts of the day being very classic and traditional which is something I definitely wanted to lean into for the day! I found my inspiration in a few different places, but mainly looking through photos on pinterest and instagram and initially picked the colours and a few key features I wanted to include on the day and went from there.

Tell us a bit about your dress

I love my dress! I spent so long trying to look for a dress! I went with my mum and sisters to about 6 different shops in Brisbane and tried on so many dresses, and I found a few dresses I liked, but none that I absolutely loved. Mum then suggested that I try looking in Toowoomba, as me and my sister had both found our formal dresses there, so I made appointments at 3 bridal shops and we went to look. I tried on a few dresses I liked at the first 2 stores and was starting to think I’d tried on too many dresses at that point and I still hadn’t picked one! We arrived at the last shop and I started looking through the dresses and I found this dress and said to mum and the shop assistant lady that I really like this one, and proceeded to try it on. I put it on and I remember thinking how beautiful the detailing was and the train! And I walked out of the dressing room and my mum just started crying, and my little sister said oh wow! And we all thought this must be the one! We asked the shop assistant the price and she proceeded to tell me I had selected the most expensive dress in the store, classic me! So we tried to suss out if there would be any upcoming sales, and decided to wait a little bit as it was only May 2023 so I still had a year until the wedding. My other sister was unable to attend the fittings in Toowoomba so I decided to back to the shop with her a few months later in July to show her the dress (although she had seen photos), we went back to Brides of Toowoomba and I tried on my dress again to show her, and she also loved it! I decided it was the one and put down my deposit, and luckily for me they had a sale on at the time so I was able to save a few hundred dollars! I also had an Indian lehenga that I changed into mid-reception, with Dean being of Indian heritage this is something we wanted to incorporate into our wedding as something fun, different and personal to us! We travelled to India in December 2023 to visit Dean’s family for Christmas and while we were there we couldn’t help but pick up a few beautiful cultural outfits, and seeing all these amazing pieces inspired us to get something to bring back home and wear for our wedding! We shopped around together with his mum and both got custom tailored traditional Indian attire fit for our special day!

A moment you will cherish forever from the day?

This is such a hard question! There are so many moments I loved, but if I had to pick just one, it would be this! I was standing outside the big wooden church doors with my dad, waiting out of sight as I watched each of my sisters and my best friends walk out through the door, trying to remain composed but was fully freaking out! The song changed and the doors swung open with dad standing and I standing in the centre, and it was just surreal, everyone was there looking and me, I turned in both directions to see all my beautiful friends and family looking at me, most of them with tears in their eyes and I remember desperately trying not to cry! But then I looked up down the aisle and saw Dean standing there with tears running down his face and I just started crying! I’m crying again now just thinking about it! We looked at each other and it was just the most magical moment, everything else just disappeared and all that mattered was the two of us, I got up to the altar and dad gave my hand to Dean and we stood there hand in hand looking at each other and all I could feel was love, just so much love and it was the happiest moment of my life! I just remember thinking that I love him so much and that our special day was finally here and that this was just the beginning of a beautiful life together!

Dean:  I was going to say, Dani walking down the aisle was the best moment of my day because in that moment I felt this deep feeling of love and confidence that it was the best decision I had ever made. However, since Dani already spoke about that, if I was to choose another one it would be saying our personal vows to each other. At the end of our night, after being on such a high from our surreal day that we felt was perfect, Dani and I just escaped without telling anyone with the photographers and videographers to do our personal vows that we hadn’t done as yet. In that moment, it was just the two of us looking each other in the eyes and making promises to each other with full conviction, feeling all the butterflies in my stomach, so powerful and loved to know that we were going to have each other through thick and thin for the rest of our lives, re-establishing our commitment from 5 years ago when we first started dating.

Let’s talk about the styling, did you have a specific idea in mind?

In regards to styling I had a very general idea of what I was wanting at the start and I just built from that! We gave ourselves a lot of time between our engagement in 2021 and our wedding in 2024 so I had a lot of time to really look and sort through things to see what I wanted and what I liked and didn’t like. I initially picked my colours, I always knew I wanted some shade of pink, it was just a matter of working out which ones and what other colours I wanted to work in with that, essentially opting for shades of blush pink, white and gold. I knew I was wanting a more classic, elegant vibe so I really used all the resources I had in terms of photos from previous Vic Park weddings and the styling book options from Beautiful Weddings and really picked and chose different elements I wanted from each! I made my own invitations with the colours and kind of theme I liked and used this as sort of a blueprint for the wedding styling, incorporating the same colours and types of florals. Nicole and the team at Beautiful Weddings were very helpful and accommodating and really helped us nail the styling! We went in for a meeting and I showed her the general vibe of what I was wanting, the colours, the invitations and a few floral/ decorative photos I liked and she then suggested some different options and we went from there! I worked with Demi to create a mood or vision board for the florals and honestly she nailed it! Our florals were all absolutely stunning and honestly perfect! The styling all came together beautifully and although we made a few later additions, Nicole was very accommodating to the changes and it all tied in perfectly! Our room was absolutely beautiful and everything I had imagined!
