Tell us a little about yourselves. How did you meet?
My name is Trisha and my now husband’s name is Chris. We met while we were both at university! I remember he used to work at a Starbucks near where I worked, and he used to always bring me a little drink or treat whenever I went on my lunch break. I know they say that the way to a man’s heart is to his stomach – but I think the same could be said for me too hah!
Can you share your engagement story?
Absolutely! It was just a few months shy of being our 4 year anniversary, and Chris had suggested a lovely idea of going on one of the GoBoats in Brisbane to have a picnic, and I thought it was a great idea for a date. It had been a while since we’d gone out, so I hadn’t really been suspicious. We got all dressed up, and headed out to the docks to get into one of the boats. I spent most of the time on the boat taking photos, eating the picnic, or sunbathing, and bless Chris, because the whole time he just wanted me to sit still enough to be able to pop the question. Eventually, he was able to convince me to sit down and try driving the boat. Then, he knelt down on one knee, and popped the question. I still remember to this day the two thoughts I had immediately. “Oh my god, he’s proposing” and immediately after “Oh my god, who’s driving the boat?!”
I was thankfully able to choke out a sobbing yes, and then immediately begged him to make sure we didn’t crash because I could see a sandy shore area getting too close for comfort. He certainly knew how to get my heart pumping!

What made you choose Walkabout Creek for your reception?
Chris and I spent a lot of time choosing the right venue. We anticipated about 200 quests for our wedding, and since we were also having an Indian wedding, there were certain ritual elements we needed to make sure our venue could accommodate. We initially planned to have both our ceremony and our reception at walkabout, but ultimately decided that we would do only the reception so that it would be less of a worry logistically. What I loved about Walkabout Creek was the beauty of the outdoors, and the scenic views from the Deck. I also just found Jaya and her team so accommodating to our needs and wants, and they were able to make any request we asked for possible without a stress. We’d seen the photos online of previous weddings hosted at Walkabout, and knew that it would be the perfect setting for the last event of our 7 day wedding!
Did you have a specific theme in mind? And how did you find your inspiration?
I am a big fan of Pinterest so I had my mood going the second we were off that boat! That was where ultimately a lot of my inspiration came from. Admittingly, I did find some good ideas on TikTok as well, from a lot of other brides who had shared their DIYs or mood boards. Ultimately I knew that I wanted a ‘wildflowers in a magical forest’ kind of mood for the theme. I knew I also wanted to add some elements of Indian decor in the mix as well but try to keep it modern. I knew I wanted colour, but I didn’t want anything to be super bold or loud. At the end of the day, I wanted to walk into the room and feel like I had entered a magical world. I know I’ve used a lot of “I” statements, but I promise all decisions were made with my husband – who was mostly happy to let me run the theme, whilst adding his own suggestions where he wanted something in particular.

Tell us a bit about your dress
We went hunting for most of my outfits in Sydney, where there is a lot of shops to choose a variety of outfits from for Indian attire! My reception outfit is one of my all-time favourite outfits. The attention to detail to the embroidery and the design of my blouse and skirt is in my eyes, simply perfection. Indian outfits by nature can be heavy but I wouldn’t have done it any other way. Blue has also always been my favourite colour, so I just felt that everything about the outfit felt like it was ‘me’.
I remember it was also the outfit that made my mother cry in the store, so it felt like the right decision to be making!
A moment you will cherish from the day forever
I think for us, a moment we’ll cherish from the day is when we arrived on scene to get our couple photos taken with the photographer. Guests hadn’t arrived yet but it was the last day of all the chaos that comes with the wedding – and we just got to take in the beauty of the trails and the dam in silence. We were blessed with sunny weather, and it almost felt like we were being rejuvenated while we were walking around the location, laughing and getting our photos taken.
I remember walking out on the deck and looking around at how everything was set up and just went ‘This is perfect’. I was blown away by how the deck had been transformed, and how the vision I had in my mind had come to life. I remember seeing my husband walking around, and just nodding to himself going “yeah, this isn’t bad, is it” (I do not think this man truly knew what the vision was beforehand, but he loved it the same at the end!) I remember it was also the outfit that made my mother cry in the store, so it felt like the right decision to be making!

Let’s talk about your flowers, did you have a specific idea in mind?
I didn’t have specific flowers in mind, I generally just wanted to keep to the theme of wildflowers and otherwise as vague as possible. I was happy to leave that decision with the team, I’d seen their work before and I knew that what they chose would be fantastic. Some could argue too much faith – but I would happily disagree!
What’s the best piece of advice you can give other brides to be when it comes to styling their special day?
I think playing to your location’s aesthetic will always be a smart idea. With Walkabout, we had this great natural outdoors views, and I didn’t want anything to be a harsh contrast against it. I wanted my styling to complement and enrich the beauty that existed out there. I think if you do have certain elements you really want, find someone who can make it happen. I think we were fortunate enough that this was the case for us with Beautiful Weddings.
